This week, Rose went on the record with Hyoo Lim, Brightspot's chief architect. Since its inception, Hyoo has overseen Brightspot's continued development, ushering it through the most recent 3.0 release. During their conversation, Rose and Hyoo discussed the initial vision for Brightspot and where it's headed in the future.
How long have you been working for Brightspot?
I have been working at Brightspot for a little over 5 years.
Where did you work at prior to Brightspot?
I worked at AOL.
What inspired you to become a Software Engineer?
I sort of just fell into it. Since I was young I've always been interested in computers. So when I first needed a job I started working with software for startups and have been doing it ever since.
What is your favorite part about working for Brightspot?
My favorite part about working at Brightspot is the great people we have here. There is a sense of community around helping everyone out and working together to achieve a common goal.
You've been the lead architect for Brightspot since its inception. How was the vision and plan for the platform changed over time?
I think the vision has stayed pretty much the same, which is to help our clients get their websites and other projects done on time and to the highest level. That vision has stayed consistent over the lifetime of the Brightspot.
How do you think Brightspot best benefits our clients?
I think it really helps them organize their thoughts around what they want to do with their website. It allows them the freedom to execute their vision easily and quickly.
What is the future of Brightspot? How will it continue to the evolve?
I think we are expanding to help other areas of our partners' businesses not only for development, but also design, product, QA, and operations.
What piece of advice would you give a recent graduate starting a career in software engineering?
My advice would be to write code even if you make mistakes. Just keep at it.
If you could have any super power, which would you like to have?
I don't think I want a super power! I don't want that responsibility!
